Review Policy

Welcome to my blog! On this website I do reviews of books, movies, theater, and television in my free time. Each review is written solely by me without the use of artificial intelligence, I read/watch everything I write about, and I do not consult other resources before writing my reviews to avoid biases. This is a practice I began when working as a professional film critic; I don’t want others’ judgement bleeding into my opinions before I sort through my own thoughts.

Across the board: if I really do not like something, I will not review it, even if it is an advance copy/screening. The Internet is full of an incredible amount of hate nowadays, and while I do believe in constructive criticism, I don’t want to engage in a cycle where other people’s opinions are solely shaped by mine. That’s not fair to the creator of the work, as taste is so incredibly subjective. I might not like romance, but someone else might only want to read it. Neither of us are wrong in the end with our opinions, so let’s be kind.

I am open to advance screenings/copies unless I am inundated with them. I try my best to schedule them on the day of release, but sometimes life happens. I will get the review out there eventually.

Let’s get into the individual genres’ review policies below. Please note that unless otherwise stated, I pay for a subscription/book purchase/theater tickets with my own money.

Review Mediums

    • This is a unique review category for me, as I include actual summaries. No other genre I do that for anymore as of mid-2024.

      • Advance screenings I do not include a summary for.

    • Focus: international and BIPOC cinema.

  • Book reviews include a basic summary and what I thought of the book.

Focus: international books, books in translation, BIPOC authors, women authors, fiction, nonfiction.

Advance copies are usually welcome unless I am at capacity.

  • Television reviews include a brief summary and my thoughts on it.

Focus: Asian television, world television, women-focused stories whenever possible.

  • Theatrical reviews include a basic summary as well, plus my thoughts. All tickets and trips are purchased with my own money!

Focus: BIPOC led plays, musicals, NYC/DMV theater.
