Korean Dramas (Winter ‘21)
Love Alarm (좋아하면 울리는), 2019.
Ever since getting a Viki subscription, I’ve become a Korean dramatic fanatic. It’s become an actual problem. But here’s some dramas that I’ve been obsessed with lately!
Tale of the Nine Tailed — I rewatched this twice. I swear to god Lee Dong-wook looks so good in red hair. I rewatched just for the red hair. Besides that, the first half of this drama is excellent. It starts getting real weird though at about episode ten, and I didn’t like it, but stuck around for the hair.
Touch Your Heart — I watched this after Nine-Tailed because I missed the red hair. He did not have red hair in this and I was disappointed. It was cute though, and a nice little reunion from Goblin for Dong-wook and In-na.
Lovestruck in the City — This is about a breakup and it hits you right in the feels. I thought that it captured the essence of youth and maturing very nicely, I highly recommend it.
Love Alarm — I originally watched this awhile back but rewatched to prepare for S2. Song Kang did so well in this! I honestly wasn’t a fan of his character as much as the other guy, but, alas, second lead syndrome.
To My Star — I haven’t finished this yet because I’m waiting on Viki to upload the rest of the episodes, but I never thought I’d see a mainstream gay K-drama. I’m so happy for the representation! Next we need a girl one where the relationship isn’t sexualized, a la The Handmaiden.
Flower of Evil — This was….interesting? I don’t know how to feel about it, but the plot was pretty fast-paced and there were quite a few twists and turns. Amazing performance from both of the leads. I recommend it.
